HLC Probiotics improve gram positive bacteria infection
Q. My mother is in the hospital with a gram positive bacteria infection in her kidneys and lungs. They are giving her strong antibiotics, and I would like to know what you recommend for her to take when she returns from the hospital. My father passed away 3 years ago with a gram negative bacteria infection, so I am very concerned for my sister and my children as to preventing the same bacteria from taking over in our systems. Can you please recommend what my mother should take as well as the rest of us and what maintenance dosage to use on an ongoing basis as well?
A. HLC Synbiotic Intensive Packets would be appropriate for your mother to use immediately after she gets out of the hospital, as long as she can tolerate the FOS in these packets. The FOS is a food source for the good bacteria, but due its high concentrations of fructo-oligo-saccharides (FOS), it can cause some GI discomfort when she first starts taking it.
FOS ensures rapid establishment of the Lactobacilli in the upper small intestine and Bifido bacteria in the lower small intestine. FOS is a naturally-occurring water-soluble fiber from fruit and vegetables which feeds the friendly intestinal bacteria. The apricot is used for its soothing effect on the intestinal walls and also for its flavor.
The HLC Synbiotic Intensive will crowd out yeast and other undesirable organisms which result from use of antibiotics. It is best to take this when there is some food in the stomach for best transport and survival to the intestines. It is intended to use for 7 to 14 days depending on the severity of the problem. Given she is probably on strong antibiotics, her entire GI tract is losing most, if not all, of its good microflora. It may be best for her to use this for a full 14 days.
If she has any problems or real discomfort from the FOS, then an alternative high potency probiotic is the HLC Intensive (no FOS) Capsules with a minimum of 24 billion per capsule. She could take up to 5 of these capsules daily to repopulate her intestines and to achieve the same level of probiotics as in the Synbiotic.
A good maintenance probiotic is HLC High Potency Capsules. This would be recommended after she finishes at least 2 weeks of Intensive probiotics.
As well as you and your children, if none of you have any intestinal health issues, then you all could take the HLC High Potency Capsules. A good maintenance dose is 1-2 capsules daily with meals for adults, and 1 cap a day for children less than 12 years old.
