Gluten free greens
Q. My niece is gluten intolerant. Is Phyto greens gluten free and is it ok for a 12 yr old child?
A. PhytoGreens by Genestra does not make a claim to be gluten free due to these ingredients:
- Wheat (Triticum aestivum) Aerial Parts 58 mg
- Organic Barley (Hordeum vulgare) Leaf 58 mg
- Wheat (Triticum aestivum) Sprout 58 mg
Though it is unlikely to have gluten due to the careful ingredient sourcing by Genestra, instead of this, I would recommend this to be on the safer side:
- Fruit n’ Greens by NewMark – this company does not make a gluten-free statement, but I do not see any ingredients which would contain gluten, except if oat gluten is a problem and this is what they have to say about it:
“Synbiotic Nutrients™, Full Spectrum Extracts, and Specialty Formulas do not contain ingredients considered by the Celiac Sprue Association to pose harm to individuals with gluten intolerance. However, Fruits ‘n Greens™ does contain oats, a food that may or may not elicit an immune response in individuals with gluten intolerance, and it would take over 7000 servings of Fruits ‘n Greens to equal the amount of gluten in a slice of bread.”
Also, the Fruit n’ Greens product would be fine for a 12 year old. It is made from organic foods. I would recommend that you read the ingredients fully before purchasing if your child has other food allergies to consider.
If you need further guidance, I would recommend signing up for a nutrition consult.
