The Truth About Detox

The Truth About Detox

Detox : What You Should Know?

Guess what two health items see a huge boost in sales right after the New Year?

Give up?

Here’s the answer: Gym memberships and detox kits!

Look, the New Year is a great time to take stock of things, do a course correction, and—for many—try to undo some of the “damage” of the holiday season while getting a good, clean, fresh start on 2014.

It’s also when I get the most questions about detoxes, so today’s post is devoted to that, so hang tight and I’ll provide you with our #1 most favorite way to detox in 2014.

What’s a Detox, Anyway?

The term “detoxification” has been around forever, but it remains a terribly misunderstood and misused term. People use it to describe a staggeringly wide range of procedures, from total fasting, to spiritual retreats, to highly sophisticated nutritional regimens for the removal of specific toxins like mercury.

For our purposes, let’s just define a detox as a period of time during which we give our systems—our livers and our digestive systems—a much-needed rest.

Think of it as a kind of “time out” from the daily assault on our cells of environmental pathogens and toxic foods. That kind of “time out”—which can last anywhere from a day to a month—can be a deeply valuable asset in our quest for a long and healthy life.

Doing a detox is kind of like rebooting a sluggish computer (or more accurately, like emptying the trash that’s taking up a huge amount of memory).

Often the desire to “detox” is really a desire to move towards the light—figuratively and literally. Lighter food, a lighter way of being, “lightening up”, “lightening the load”—even our language reflects our desire to be “unburdened” of toxic influences, whatever their source—food, air, water, or circumstances.

There are literally dozens of “detox kits” on the market, most of them useless, some of them not bad at all, but without question the category winner for a quick way to lighten your toxic load is the all-new Designs for Health 14-Day Detox Kit.

Designs for Health 14-Day Detox Kit

The kit consists of four products:

This is one of DFH’s best products, a comprehensive functional food powder ideal for detoxification.

It contains macronutrients to fuel the detoxification pathways, a full multivitamin/mineral for detoxification enzyme support, all the nutrients needed to support and balance phase I and II detoxification pathways, and high levels of antioxidant support for safe detoxification.

The liver formula also contains a comprehensive array of herbal alteratives (herbs that stimulate the detoxification functions of the liver) and cholagogues (compounds that increase the secretion of bile) all of which promote optimal liver function and elimination.

PaleoCleanse has a pleasant berry-vanilla flavor, a wonderful, smooth texture (mouth feel), and mixes easily in any beverage. It’s also dairy-, gluten-, and lactose-free, and is sweetened with stevia.

This is a natural pea protein isolate which offers a high level of functionality and nutritional benefits. It’s perfect for those of you who are looking for vegetarian protein and may not want dairy-derived protein (especially if you’re eliminating dairy and wheat during the detox).

PurePea is a true vegan protein which has high bioavailability and excellent digestibility. Vanilla flavored PurePea is sweetened with stevia and mixes easily in any beverage. It’s good stuff!

Amino D-Tox was designed by clinicians to biochemically upregulate phase ll detoxification. The phase II conjugating pathways have to be prepared to deal with phase I metabolites before these pathways are stimulated.

So for repairing the liver’s ability to detoxify chemicals, this product could be used before any other nutraceutical, or powdered detoxification formula, until the conjugating pathways are all working optimally. (The very thorough user’s guide, included with the kit, explains how to use the products together and in what order.)

Plant Enzyme Digestive Formula

In order to assimilate vitamins and nutrients from our food and supplements, we have to be able to digest them properly. However, the foods in the typical American diet are devoid of natural enzymes and do little to help secrete our own production of enzymes.

Plant Enzyme Digestive Formula is a combination of the most important enzymes for digestion of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates—including lactase for the digestion of the milk sugar lactose.

The kit also comes with a blender bottle, a very easy-to-understand 14-day detox/cleanse guide, and is delivered in a reusable bag made from recyclable materials. It’s really unique—and it’s totally suitable for vegans and vegetarians (as well as omnivores, of course!)

We don’t think there’s a better designed detox kit on the market today for a quick cleanse, and we’re delighted to be able to bring it to you exclusively. Designs for Health is only selling the kit to health professionals, and it’s not currently available anywhere else but Rockwell Nutrition.

Wishing you health and happiness,

The Rockwell Nutrition Team
